After bringing home your new Heat Wave pack and activating the button and using the heat for the first time, we recommend that you initially "season" the pad when you recharge it for reuse. This simply means to boil the pad instead of Microwaving it and to boil it five to ten minutes longer than the directions call for. (See boiling directions below) "Seasoning" the pad will soften the plastic and seasons the crystals, allowing it to produce heat for its maximum time.

** Make sure to dissolve all the white crystals when recharging (either by boiling or Microwaving). If you don’t dissolve all the crystals but instead take the heat pack out of the recharging process too quickly, as it sets to cool, it’ll automatically recrystallize all by itself.     However, if this happens, don’t worry! It can easily be fixed. Just "season" the pack (See instructions above)—boil it five to ten minutes longer than usual or until all crystals are dissolved.

Do not use the Heat Wave pack immediately after recharging it, as it will be very hot (boiling-hot!).

Store Heat Wave in clear, liquid state—try not to store in white solid state for an extended amount of time.

Just give it a "Click"!—Firmly flex or depress metal disk (activator). To do this, just grab the edges of the activator and push it inside out causing it to emit a "click" sound. When you do this, you are actually separating the grooves and forcing the chemical solution through the activator which in turn causes one molecule to crystallize and heat up. It activates when you give the clicker enough friction to shock the chemical solution into its crystallization process. So if one click doesn’t give it enough friction, just click it again until you see the white crystals and feel the heat. It’s normal to click the activator button 1-12 times to start the crystallization process with new pads.

Massage it—Once the activator starts the crystallization process, the clear liquid starts to heat up and change into a white solid. Massage pack all over to cause it to reach its maximum temperature and to soften the crystals.

Insulate the heat pack from cold air around it by using it in a pouch, towel, under a coat, underneath covers, etc. to enjoy its heat for as long as possible.

To Recharge the HW818 Heat Wave Pack— (Must be recharged between uses—Use any one of these three methods)

By Boiling Method: (Easiest & safest way to recharge pack)             Fold outside wings toward center of pad (to make pad as small & compact as possible). Wrap folded heat pack in a towel (face cloth or dish towel size works well) to protect the plastic from melting to the pot. Place wrapped heat pack in pot of water and BOIL at least 20-30 minutes or until all crystals are completely dissolved and pad is totally clear. (To make it simple, use a timer if you can.) Remember that as long as the pad’s plastic is protected with a towel against the sides and bottom of the pot, you can boil the pad much longer than the directions call for without damaging the pad.) Let heat pack cool to room temperature before "clicking" the activator again.

By Microwaving in Water:   (Best Microwaving method to protect the plastic from melting) Fold outside wings toward center of pad (to make pad as small & compact as possible). Place pack, wings down, in large microwave bowl and cover with water to ensure the entire pack is underwater by at least two inches. (Lay something on top of pad to insure that it stays at least two inches under water (e.g.-microwave safe cup filled with water/saucer)) Heat in microwave for 20-30 minutes or until all crystals are completely dissolved.
